Was thinking today... After just coming back from a vacation to Charleston. Another Dear cherry said she lives there so I of course stalked her gallery looking for inspiration. Did not see any layouts of places I had been to.
It got me thinking. How many layouts do I actually have about my city? I think 1-2 that's it. Yes I have restaurants and attractions but nothing else really.
When I was younger I would spend some summers in a tiny town in Ohio. I so loved it there. I barely have any pictures and I regret that. So if you moved from your home city, would you regret not documenting it by taking pictures?? Why do we take so many when we travel but not of the place we call home
Just food for thought...... I am certain this wil show up in a future Picture Yourself Challenge..

So true, Kristin! I moved away from where I was born and raised at the age of 22. I have photos from school, but not really many after except when we went back to visit my parents at their home over the years. I have a few from a Christmas village and when we rode our motorcycles back for a rally, but other than that, I really don't have any.aheatfan wrote: ↑Sat Apr 05, 2025 9:04 pmWas thinking today... I was just thinking about this the other day. One of the Mom and Pop restaurants here closed recently and they had a huge (at least 20 feet tall) Indian mascot outside the restaurant. It was bought at auction and a new local place was going to display him but when they went to move him - he collapsed - and just like that, he was gone! I wish I had a picture of him because he was definitely a local landmark and we have a lot of fond memories of eating there. I'm sure there are other places that I would love to have pictures of - so this has me thinking about a little local field trip around town!

I look forward to it. I am sure I will be inspired by your vacay pages to hopefully get some completed of my own. I have many pictures, but the majority remain unscrapped. I hope you had a wonderful time in Charleston!

When my parents both went into a nursing home and we knew neither of them would be returning I went arounf the house and took a bunch of pictures. I just found them again yesterday. They bring back so many memories because they owned that house nearly 50 years. I’m so very glad I have them!
But I don’t have any pictures of the surrounding area there or of the area around our home in Florida. We were there 20 years. Makes me think I should take pictures of the area where we live now because it’s changing very quickly!

Interesting indeed!
I know I still have photos of home that I haven't scrapped - or at LEAST I think I do! I should take MORE pictures next time I get to go visit!

That is an interesting thought. I have virtually no pictures of my city. I have pictures from events hosted by my city (festivals, Easter egg hunts, parades, etc.), but no actual photos or layouts of any landmarks or city features. I do however have tons and tons of pics from travels to other cities. Those are more important to me because I know I'm never going to get back to those places (probably). And, to be honest, I really don't find my "home" city to be anything special. We are known as the "Sandstone Capital of the World", but as far as anything "special" here . . . there really isn't anything. The only special place that holds any kind of memories was the Ben Franklin store, and that was replaced with a bar.

I can't wait to see this in a Picture Yourself challenge! I love my hometown. I was born and raised here. The funny thing about that is that I never really embraced all the "tourist" attractions. Travelers ask me all the time about them because I am a native but that's just not what I think of when I think of "home". I do love the idea of documenting those attractions so that I'll have them to look back at if I ever do leave my home (or to see it change throughout time).
Delicious food for thought. Thank you.

This is exactly what I mean...things that bring back sweet memories but live only in our minds...how great would it be to have photos?Monroe1218 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 05, 2025 9:52 pmI was just thinking about this the other day. We had an amazing time in your beautiful city and think we would LOVE to live there. Such beautiful homes and cityscape.

I think when we are growing up it is not something we really consider, it is not until we are grown and recalling memories that you wish you had the photos.VickiR wrote: ↑Sat Apr 05, 2025 9:33 pmSo true, Kristin! I agree about the travel photos but also think that just having pictures of your street, your neighborhood, favorite places will be precious someday. I live in a huge city and don't go to the touristy spots but do wish I had pictures of Miami from when I was little, it has changed sooooo much!!

I agree, I don't do the tourist things here but wish that I had taken pictures in Ohio of how it was when I was a kid because it would be so different now. Even the street I grew up on here seems different.JessM wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 11:56 amI can't wait to see this in a Picture Yourself challenge! I love my hometown. I was born and raised here. A huge picture taking family here, I have pictures when we were all out at Montauk Point (the very end of Long Island) when my nephew got married out there… pictures when we took little Maddie to the lighthouse, the rocky shore, looking straight out at the Atlantic Ocean, and on the beach there. Although I haven't been to any other LI beaches in many, many, many, years, I have pics of being there with the kids there when they were young. And whenever we have been in NYC, even when DH and I were going there for his treatments and dr visits, I have pics of being there, and pics traveling across the bridges, pics of the city streets, and even pics of something or some building that we thought was cool. Many times on road trips I would take a pic as we crossed the bridge on the way home… as I love capturing the NYC skyline when traveling across the Throgs Neck Bridge. As for pics of home, we have so many pictures of mom's house, from the 60s to now. This past weekend we were looking through all the pictures taken in the house when we first moved in, our first Christmas there, and years and years of photos in the house and in the yard. We had an in ground pool and have so many pictures of summers from the 60s and 70s, and then pictures in the 80s and 90s from when we used to have the "Summer Olympics" when my and my sister's kids were young. As for my house I am in now, I have before and after pics of virtually every home improvement project we have ever done in this house. I have taken neighborhood pics in the fall when I have been out on my walks, and many, many pics of my yard over the years and how much it has changed. So I don't have a lack of pictures from around here, lol.
