Re: Dog rescue fundraising ideas
I just love what you're doing to try to help out.  Our last dog (Dixon) was a rescue dog and I loved him so much!!!  We lost him about three years ago and I still miss him. It is heartbreaking going in to those shelters.  I want to bring them all home.  I think all these suggestions are such good ideas.  I'd be happy to make some dog cards if you need some.  Let me know.  💖

This post made me smile big! 😊
How cool that you won some doggie scrappy stuff during the auction! I think hand made thank you cards are always a good idea

So MANY good ideas here!!!

Since we rescue so many cats, I don't have as much to give towards fundraising as in the past. However, when I get my tax money, I like to send some anonymously to the local shelter. (They help with cat food for so MANY people who feed the strays, and they've helped us with getting some of the strays fixed, too!)
More people should give back when they can- the animals DEFINITELY need our help, as so do people who care for them! 😊

You're doing a wonderful thing Suzann!  I think your Valentine idea is great and I hope more people take advantage of it, especially since it benefits our furry friends.

Wanted to share an update:

I offered up my first fundraiser with the dog rescue.  It's not a big money maker, but it's a good start to see if this was a good idea.  I made 3 different Valentine's about 20 of each design because I wasn't sure if this would be well received or not.  So far it's not, but I do like that I have had 9 people donate.  The cards I made were not flat and I wanted them different - 3D.  What I donated was the cards and anyone who made a $5 donation I would mail the card for them.  I paid for the postage and I wrote, address, and mailed.

Since I send Valentine's to family and friends, I thought this would do well.  Small donation and you get something in return.  This was a good test to see if handmade cards would generate any interest.  Not saying I won't try again.  But maybe a different approach or communication needs to be different.  I think the rescue also needed to probably share and promote it more.  I'm getting the idea they are short handed and so far I've only communicated with 1 person and she is probably spread to thin.

One of the fun ways I can help out is on the weekend you can go on a field trip with a dog or two.  You can pick them up about 10am and return by 4pm.  We have done this twice, we all loved it.  Except Sammy, our dog is not suppose to meet the rescue dogs, so he hangs out with me or my husband while the rescue dogs get a nice quiet break from the loud rescue.  We run them, walk them, spoil them, throw balls, snuggle, pet and let them chill.  It's no cost to me, just my time.  We also share on fb about the dogs hoping that the pictures and our personal reports on the dogs help them get adopted. :)

Thanks for all your ideas...still hoping to do more!  Feels good!

Hello cherries,

I know we have alot of pet owners on here and today I went to pick up an auction item I won for local dog rescue.  It was just a bag of old dog related scrapbook/card making items.  I think I was the only one who bid on it. But I'm super excited about it.  This was my first time visiting and it was heart breaking, so I let the gal know that I would love to help out.  This was her first auction and since I've helped on few just this year with the school and my daughter's tennis team.  I don't have alot of experience, but I want to help.  I have a rescue dog named Sammy that won't allow other dogs in our house.  But they had over 50 dogs looking for homes.

Now to the point of this post - I would love to hear about any dog fundraising you have seen in your area or ideas you might have since we have such a great community here I'd love to know what you have seen or heard about that I might be able to help do here.

I'm already planning to offer handmade thank you notes for them to send out (or maybe I will send out for them).  Also, going to help onsite too.

Thanks all and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Wonderful what you are doing, Suzann.  Sounds like you're off to a good start.  Hopefully, the donation idea will catch on.  My cousin does the field trip every weekend with a rescue near her in Charlotte, NC.  She is very passionate about it and has adopted 4 dogs in the past 5 years.

I think you're off to a great start! I bet if you continue to donate cards you will get repeat buyers and gradually build the number of people who check out your creations. Good luck!

I hope so because I absolutely love making cards and I have no interest in selling them, but asking for a donation for a dog rescue I'm all in.  Thanks so much!!

This my makes my heart so happy!!! This is one fabulous post!

Suzann, thank you for rescuing Sammy. My Miss Penny Lane is a rescue (straight from the streets) and Jasmine and Shelby were adopted from our local humane society. Their very pregnant momma was roaming the streets and she gave birth there. She had my 2 girls and 6 others. Rescues are hands down the best dogs ever. Their hearts are bigger than ours!

We have a kitty rescue group here called The Cattery and each year, in March or April, they have an online Facebook Fundraiser that does REALLY WELL. You donate ANY $$ you want, and submit a photo of your furbaby. In turn, one of their staff members will draw a picture of your furbaby. They can usually turn it around in 24 hours. They always receive more funds than expected so this is one amazing one.

Our local blood bank will have Blood Drives that, for every blood donation, a certain amount of food will be donated to our local humane society.

We also have PawFest each year in November. It is free to get in, but any donations go to the shelters. They have booths where people sell their crafts (not all pet related) and all proceeds go to the shelters. There's raffles.

They do a Halloween Party and take donations and do raffles. Everyone can dress up!

Best of luck to you!!

AND MR. JACKSON!!!!  HOW COULD YOU FORGET HIM?  Remember when you were trying to find his owner or a forever home for the sweet kitty you found, and he knew after you named him he was way ahead of you!!!  Thank you  too Brandy for rescuing these sweethearts.  PS: Dolly is a rescue from a small homeless shelter, dropped there with her two brothers at 10 weeks old.  At 11 weeks, she was sleeping in my bed.  Her brothers had already been adopted.
