I've been popping in my craft room recently since I've been MIA from it. Reality hit me when I realized I may not have much time to craft once I pop this baby out in the next couple of weeks. So, I created a mixed media card and journal page the last couple weeks which helped my creative juices flow.
This morning however, I have an itch to get some LO's done b/c I'm so behind. It's been a while since I've touched a LO (last summer when I found out I was expecting to be exact). My brain works chronologically so that's the theme next on the list to create...summer. How am I supposed to create summer LO's when it's freezing out?! I'm such a craft snob aren't I? LOL I really want to catch up but I was also hoping to create something on-theme like winter or even Valentine's Day. Because I work in chronological order, I have no on-theme photos to work with... they have all been scrapped lol
As I ponder my dilemma and look around my craft room goodness me, for not being in here much... it's a mess. I kind of want to reorganize it. Maybe that's just the nesting in me. But having the choice between that and scrapbooking summer LO's, that's a no brainer right? I guess sometimes you just have to think out loud to make the right decision. Pulling out some summer paper now.
Happy crafting

I'm mostly chronological as well, more so when I had little kids.
Maybe think of the summer pages to warm you up on these cold days.

Nice to see you stop in Jess!! Hope all is going well and we will be seeing pics of that beautiful baby soon. I'm a somewhat chronological scrapper but if I have a photo from way back and the papers that work with it, I have no problem scrapping it. I agree with Louise, let the summer photos bring you warmth!

I'm pretty much a chronological scrapper who's way behind. And I scrap all the pics, I don't pick and choose. Why store in 2 places? (I'm talking about printed photos, like from the olden days of film. Digital pics I'm willing to delete some. I generally don't keep pics I'm not going to print and scrap.) I went to chrono years ago because it's just easier to put the pages in order that way and know what pages will face (so whether or not I can make a 2 page spread or if they'll end up back to back and so should not make them go across.)
The weather has zero influence on what I scrap. But if I was willy-nilly and gave myself the choice - it would be fall layouts until none were left. Then I'd probably do beach after that. I do have a fall layout coming up, but I have to do a birthday one first. Even though the birthday is in fall, it's going to be birthday themed.

Hello Jess!! Congratulations on your upcoming addition to your family!!
I'm not chronologically and I'm typically not scrapbooking in the right season...I do like it better when I am. I so much fun to be in the same season your pages. It might be why I end up making a ton of cards that match the season I'm in because I want to mail them to family and friends for that holiday!
So excited for you! Celebrating my daughter tomorrow she will be 16.

Jess, I don't scrap chronologically at all. I'm all over the place season wise and mood wise. Most of the time when I've finished an album I'll put it in chrono order if it's for one of the grandkids. As for scrapping out of season, when it's summertime and the last thing on my mind is Christmas and winter I'll play Christmas songs and maybe watch a Christmas movie while I'm scrapping. So if you're in the winter and you need to scrap summer pictures then put on some Beach Boys or something really summery. I hope you'll find a way to carve out some time to scrap a bit after the baby comes! At least make sure you write things down so you won't forget as the baby grows! Take good care of yourself!!! And happy scrapping!!!

I have been trying to get out of a funk and back into the swing of all the crafty things I enjoy. But I was spending time cleaning and organizing and not getting a fulfilling crafting experience. My DD set me up a system... she made a coin for me to flip to choose between scrapbooking and sewing. Then jars that determine the project I work on. This was a great idea. It tells me what to do if I am stuck, and she really enjoyed the project. I have to say it helps. If I draw a project or 2, I generally can get on a roll from there. And it does help narrow my focus between my 2 primary creative outlets.
Having a small lap project with a newborn is a great idea. I spent a lot of time on my phone when I sat to nurse unprepared. I could have been more productive if I had been more prepared. My LO took a long time to realize she was not dependent on my body for survival, and was generally only happy being help.
She is actually still that way, but also the one responsible for my new system above LOL. I scrap a LOT with her on my lap still. AND SHE IS 9.

Thanks so much Vicki! All is well thanks be unto the good Lord. Baby is healthy and making his debut very soon! I was able to get some creative juices flowing after all the wonderful feedback and I got one summer LO done! That's a win to meVickiR wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 12:08 pmNice to see you stop in Jess!! I wish I had your will power. I have like 1,000 photos of my littles simply eating a popsicle LOL The worst part is that I run out of storage n my phone so once a year I have to upload all those photos into my hard drive (which I don't always do in a timely manner) until I'm completely out of storage. Google makes you pay for storage and I'm just not willing to give up my scrapping supply money that easily lolTamIAm wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 12:18 pmI'm pretty much a chronological scrapper who's way behind. I scrap in chrono b/c like you, it is easier to put the pages in order. I am a "lists" person as well so naturally my brain just works better that way. I was really hoping to scrap withing the current season but I totally scrapped a summer LO today and my crafty heart is happy either way!
P.S. you got so lucky on that fall/b-day LO

Exactly! There's something about crafting along with the seasons right?! I barely got to my Dec Daily and now that I'm making an effort to scrap, the Christmas spirit is gone lol I don like the idea of turning on some Christmas music and getting it done though. That will most likely happen in the future!
Oh boy... SIXTEEN?! I can't even fathom my 3 and 6 year old girls being 16. Happy sweet 16 to your precious baby girl

I can smell the peppermint already lol I was able to crank out a summer LO and it was so satisfying. I've been pondering about lap projects for when after the baby arrives but then that would just mean another hobby lol I bought a rolling cart in hopes to stock it with scrapbooking supplies to at the very least complete foundations to LO's. Wish me luck!

Good points here! Lol!
Organizing seems to help me get my creative juices going; though it seems like I save some time by being more organized. I'm glad you are getting some crafty time in!

Keep a stack of journalling cards or tags, and a set of pens handy. You could keep track of firsts and feelings and milestones. And a smaller scale, to work into layouts later.JessM wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 9:30 pmI love that she did this for you!! It got easier to delete digital pics because of all the printed photos I already had from film days I was working through and my kids were getting older as digital became more the thing and film was phasing out. Also I get overwhelmed by digital 'clutter'. I'm not saying its always easy to narrow down the pics and I have had times with a lot of photos (and I don't really edit or print various sizes so I can't always crop down much either) and having that abundance is what starts to reign me in when you think of all the space these pages and albums take up. (Which is why I also try to get as many pics as i can on one page or two.) I've seen prolific scrapper lament on how much albums and space it's taking up. I also swap out for extra-long posts in mine (I use postbound) so my albums are thick and heavy. (Going back to that taking up space and having lots of albums conundrum.)
I don't use my phone camera much for pictures to scrap. I try and use my digital camera and if there does end up being some pics on the phone I want to keep, I eventually add them to the same SD card I use in my camera.
I started keeping a kind of list several years ago. It lets me figure out if the pictures coming up will be a single page or need multiple pages and whether or not they will wind up facing each other in the album. Because making a 2 page spread only to find out they won't fit in the album that way... aaaaaaack!! If it's unavoidable that a 'spread' would be back to back then I can just design them as stand-alone but matching pages. I scrap for both my kids so here's how that works:
I draw a vertical line dividing the paper in half with a kid's name at the top of each side. Then those columns are divided again in half for left and right sides. I put the layout in the appropriate left and/or right side. (Because I have my photos already printed, I know how many I have to work with.) And when the layouts are done I strike a line through.
Getting them into albums is a whole different ballgame! I used to be really good at it - putting the layouts in after they were done - and then fell off the wagon years ago. Still looking for that wagon!
