October progressive challenge Step 2
You should have completed step 1 before proceeding.

For Step 2 you will be using the papers you chose in step 1.
  • You have 2 full sized papers. Use one to frame or border the other. You can do this by cutting one down and adhering it to the other or by cutting a frame from one and placing it on top of the other.
  • Use one or more of your scraps to create layers or whatever you want to do with them to create a background. You may leave them the size they are, cut them with a trimmer, punch, fussy cut, tear, or die-cut from those papers and you may use as many of them as you want. You may cut banner points or use a border punch if you want.
  • Optional: You may distress or ink the edges of the papers but you don't have to (this applies to the scraps as well as to the full size papers)
  • Adhere together the 2 previously full size pieces of paper and then adhere your scraps onto them.
  • Optional: in addition to adhesive, you may attach the papers using stitching, brads, staples, eyelets, or paper clips
  • Keep the rest of the scraps in case you need them later
Here is my example, I trimmed the cardstock down so it is framed by the woodgrain. Then I cut the scraps into strips and use a border punch on the top one. I inked one edge with orange chalk ink because the cut wasn't clean but you can't really tell. (you do not have to do strips, you can cut them into whatever shapes you like)
I did not use any of the optional attaching items.

Border question...does the border have to be square like your example? As long as we use one of the papers to make a border, can it be any shape?  For example...if I use the solid cardstock for the frame, can I cut a circle in the middle of it and frame the other pp.

Good question, I hadn't thought about that. I'm going to say any shape is fine as long as the framing one goes completely around the other one. Make sense?

Perfect sense!  Thanks for the quick response.

So this is to be our base?  If I wanted paper behind my photos for layering, not for background enhancing, that's a step too far?

I'm not sure I understand the question. The papers will all end up behind the photos but you're not adding the photos at this time. Just the papers.

Re: October progressive challenge Step 2
You answered it!
I meant if I wanted some paper to tuck behind a photo, do I plan where the photo will go , or wait until the photo goes on and add the paper tucked behind the photo to adhere.  But I'll wait  and not add it perhaps at all
