The time has come!
My youngest DS, Aaron (almost 20) is going to college spring term. YEA! I have talked about him before, he has aspergers and has been a challenging child. He has really matured and I think he is ready to be on his own. He moved out for a couple months last summer but just couldn't hang on to a job and had to move back in. He has been unable to find steady work here and finally decided to do what he needed to do to enroll in school about 2 hours from here. He took the placement test, didn't do well and has to be in a guided studies program. He got a small grant (shocked us because we never qualify for anything!) His first term will be math and reading classes to get his skills up to college level. He struggled through high school so I wasn't surprised with the results of the placement test. We are going to find him a small studio apt if a family friend doesn't let him move in with her and pay rent. She has known him since he was a baby and has 2 rooms she rents out to various young adult friends of her kids. There may be an opening there but we won't know until next week. He will get a free bus pass for enrolling in the community college and Eugene is one of the top bike friendly cities in the US so he will be able to get around just fine. We used to live there for several years so there are alot of people that he knows there. He is very motivated and I am hopeful he will be successful there. Wish him luck! (and me...:-D )

I wish him luck and wellness! It is amazing to see our kids grow up, some more successfully than others, but still growing. I am willing to help anyone who is trying to help themselves. And your son is working hard on it! Congrats!

That's awesome news! I know the struggles you have had, and it's so gratifying to see them grow up and make good decisions. Way to go Mom!
