Re: **Taking Card Kits Further Class HERE!**
Today’s class is all about how to take your card kits to the next level. I will be using the We R Memory Keepers Family Keepsake Card Kit to demonstrate but you can take these techniques and make them work for any card kit out there.

Card kits are great. They give you a nice, easy, and fast way to create a whole handful of cards. But let’s be honest here… it can be a little obvious that they were created from a kit! My goal is to take these pre-designed cards, change them, and dress them up so you (and the receiver!) would never guess they were from a kit.

If you have the option to buy a card kit you will almost always also have the option to buy more coordinating embellishments. Chipboard, trims, flowers, ribbons, pearls, and stickers all work really well on cards. I purchased coordinating embellishments from the same line as well as some embellishments that were more general… and I am sure your stash holds treasures too! This is a great way to use up scraps.

So here you can see I used cardstock for the card itself instead of the original, flimsier card. I also added flocked lace behind the squares, used foam tape to elevate the squares, and added another chipboard heart.

- Cut the original folded card in half at the score line.
- Trim the green border off of the original front.
- Cut flocked lace to 5 3/4"
- Use pop dots or foam tape to elevate the squares and adhere on top of the flocked lace.
- Add the provided heart and leaf to the sentiment area
- Trim the heart tag from the extra chipboard embellishment sheet so it fits within the green square on the right.
- Cut a 12" x 6" piece of coordinating cardstock, fold it in hald and adhere the card front.
- Add four green brads in the card corners as shown.

I didn't take individual photos of the steps because honestly this is just so easy to do. I think it is a matter of thinking about the kits differently. Imagine you were designing the cards yourself. What do you normally add to cards that make them "yours"?

You'll see by the end of the eight cards that I did the same things over and over to the set.

- Again, I cut the original card in half at the score line. Trim the yellow paper to 4 3/4" x 6 3/4".
- Stich a border around the yellow paper and two lines on the green scalloped strip.
- Adhere the yellow paper to the green striped paper.
- Cut a 10" x 7" pice of coordinating cardstock, fold it in half and adhere the yellow card front.
- Adhere the notebook paper.
- Layer the scalloped strip.
- Trim the chipboard sentiment to fit between your stitch lines and adhere.
- Layer two small flowers and a pearl and use foam tape to adhere it to the top of the sentiment as shown.
- Add two white flowers and pearls to the bottom of the sentiment as shown.
- Add four yellow brads in the card corners as shown.

I really changed this card quite a bit, more out of personal taste than anything else! I just wasn't a fan of the black floral paper.

- Cut the original card base in half at the score line.
- Cut a 4" x 6" piece of the red checkered pattern from another card back. Adhere it to the center and zig zag stitch the edges.
- Adhere the bracket paper to the center.
- Cut a 6" strip of the red flocked trim down the center and adhere to the back of the "gratitude" strip like this:

- Peel the backing and adhere the entire strip to the card front as shown.
- Adhere the small green stripe.
- Cut apart the provided chipboard so you only have the heart.
- Adhere the heart to the chipboard ledger tag as well as a couple of layered flowers with a pearl.
- Tie a scrap of black lace to the hole in the tag and adhere to the card front.
- Cut a 12" x 6" piece of coordinating cardstock, fold in half, and adhere the card front.
- Add four red brads at the card corners as shown.

Thanks for joining, gals!

Again, you may prefer the original design or something different altogether... the important thing to remember is that these kits are totally customizable! USE them! "Borrow" pieces from other cards and other embellies to create what you like best.

I changed quite a bit on this card as well. Once again I wasn't a fan of the original background so I chose to do something different. I also changed the look of the sentiment and used ink on this one!

- Cut a piece of the black floral paper (from another card) to 3 1/4" x 6". Ink the edges and adhere it to the RED side of the original card.
- Cut a 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" piece of the black paper (from another card), ink the edges and adhere to the right side as shown.

Image

- Ink the edges of the card.
- Ink the edges of the red "best" paper and adhere to the center of the card.
- Ink the edges of the cream strip. Cut a length of black lace and adhere it to the center of the cream strip.
- Add two green brads to the strip as shown.
- Add the Green chipboard tag as shown, with a pearl in the hole.
- Ink the edges of the "friend" (I left off the "S") tiles and adhere to the strip.
