Like a dummy, I took too much of my diabetes medication! I'm supposed to take one in the morning and one for dinner. At 9:30 tonight, I took one thinking I forgot to take it with my dinner and then realized that I did take it with my dinner.
Then I got real nervous because I can have a panic attack at the drop of the hat. I tried throwing up the pill but couldn't get it to work. So I called Poison control. They were really nice and after asking me about all my other meds, my age and stuff, they told me to eat something now and an hour later and check my blood sugar. They want me to stay up past midnight and they will call back then to check on me.
The thing was, I just made a dr. appointment for next week because I have been having alot of stomach problems and when I read about this medication, it could be that pill that is causing my side effects. I think I'll have my hubby set the alarm for every 2 hours so I can get up and check my blood sugar often. I think I'll be afraid to fall asleep tonight,.
I'm assuming you don't still have the information sheet that came with the meds, but you might be able to find it online? Or call a pharmacist (many are open 24 hrs) to ask them if you're still nervous. I always try to keep one copy of all mine and have had to reference them a few times (side effects, missed dose, extra dose). As many medicines even publish them in magazines with ads for 'popular' meds, I'd certainly do a Google search and see what comes up!
Good luck, I'd say try not to worry but I know that doesn't help, lol. Do something (scrap?) to distract yourself, that helps me!

Oh no Jan!!! I hope your sugar doesn't spike on you and you get some rest. *****HUGS******
On a molecular level, I'm very busy.
I've done the same thing before, but it didn't have any affect on me. Hope all goes well with you. A little something extra to eat or some orange juice should ward off any problems of your blood sugar dropping too low, but it is a good idea to test it throughout the night.
Jan - I hope you are doing ok - I waited until midnight to check on you! I have panic attacks too, and I had a doozy last Saturday. PM me if you'd like - I'd love to chat with you.
Just talked to Poison Control. My blood sugar is at 119 after the pepsi and bread with peanut butter and snack mix. They want me to eat a little more before I go to bed. I think I'll have some ice cream before I turn in at 1:00. My hubby will set the alarm for 2 hours later, so I can wake up and check it again. They said the pill peaks at about 4 hours so the one I took at 6:00 peaked already and the one I took at 9:00 will peak by 1:00.
I've never eaten so much in an evening!!!

Good luck to you. If you're still nervous, contact your doctor. That's what I would do - they usually at least have nurses available.
If you are worried about it dropping, it's a good thing to have your dh wake you up so you can check it.

that sounds like you are on the right path - I think 119 is a good bedtime one. I bet you are on glucophage(metformin)????? - I have terrible stomach / gastro reactions to that. I've been on the XL one and I got it from my mail order program and it seems to have a coating on it and knock on wood hasn't been acting up nearly as much. If that's it PM me and I'll get you the manufacturer name and maybe you could try it too.
I'm glad you have someone to go through this with you. I don't know if this will help you sleep a little better but I bet if it starts to get around 80 your body will wake you up
Do you have those fact acting carb tablets on hand?
Good Luck I'll be thinking of you I know how scary it can be.
I certainly hope you are able to sleep once Poison Control calls and gives you the OK! Sleep peacefully. Happens to me a lot: forget if I've taken my meds already--it's so repetitious and the day seems like the one before. Okay, I guess I better sleep, too. It is almost 2 am here...yikes!

I was thinking the exact same thing! Metformin is well known for causing gastric upset. You should have called me Jan...I am at work, would have been glad to give some guidance. Next time....definitely call me!

I hope you can get some rest tonight. Take care.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. I ate ice cream at 1:00 am and my blood sugar at 1:30 was 131. Tried to sleep but had a headache. The alaarm went off at 3:00 am and tested at 140. I figured I'd be good for the rest of the night.
My husband tried to get me up at 6:00 to test but I was too tired. My sister called at 9:30 and woke me up. So tired. I tested my B/S and it was 83!!! I thought it was supposed to peak at 1:00 am!!!!! I decided I won't take my morning pill and just check more often today.
For those asking, I'm on Janumet - which is a combination of Januvia and Metformin. The metformin part is 1000 mg. and I take it for breakfast and dinner. I have an appointment next week with the doctor but have been having stomach problems for well over 2 months off and on but I blamed it on stress because my mil is dying and staying at my bil's house and we have to travel over 100 miles to help out. I was very nervous when we had to watch her laast month for a week by ourselves so my bil and sil could go to Vegas. My mil is very fragile, can't hear, can't see well, has wasted away and has bedsores and wasn't supposed to last more than 2 weeks and we're on day 50.
