Re: Ten on Tuesday
Wow, there are so many in NY it is hard to choose; especially since I have never even visited the city.

1. NY City (even though I am a bit scared of cities) and all the tourist attractions there-Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, etc.

2. Niagara Falls-yes, part of Niagara Falls is in NY as well as Canada-I rode the Maid of the Mist from the NY side once.

3. All the fabulous gorges in Ithaca, NY (mini waterfalls in wooded settings)

4. A winery tour in the Fingerlakes area and a stop at the Windmill-where Amish baked goods are sold among other cool things.

5. Watkins Glen-quaint little town bustling with action during the Nascar races

6. Corning Glass Museum

7. Cornell University-gorgeous architecture and you can't miss the college town restaurants!

8. Marathon Maple Festival-this is a 2 day event held usually held in early April celebrating maple syrup-so sweet!

9. Catskill Game Farms and Woodstock-they are so close that you can do them both in the same afternoon.

10. Lake Placid-an Olympic setting

There are many, many more things to do in NY. The only things I haven't done on this list are tour NYC and visit Lake Placid (well, I haven't done an actual wine tour yet, but I have driven by the wineries many, many times and it is on my list of things to do).

#3-#8 on my list are all very close to my home.

Also, I live near the town that was recently voted Coolest Little Town in America-Owego. To be honest, I find Owego quite boring but I worked there for years in the police dept and saw a side of the town many people don't-lucky for them.

This was fun to do-makes you realize what a great state you live in. I live close to PA and could list tons of fun things to do there too! Thanks for doing this!

Re: Ten on Tuesday
Well I don't know if I can come up with 10 since I have only lived here 7 years, but I will try...and I have to throw in a few places nearby but not in PA because if you're here you're close enough you really should go!

1. Gettysburg - I live here and there is sooooooooooo much to do! A must see!

2. Hershey - gotta go on the chocolate tour and see a Hershey Bears game - the Caps farm team, oh and Hershey Park

3. Lancaster/Amish Country - I myself have not been there but I am dying to go. Great history and natural beauty. And if you've ever been to a Dutch Market you'l know why.

4. Philadelphia - ok I went years ago and remember the Liberty Bell, we should all see that right?

5. Longwood Gardens - another I haven't been to but my parents have and I hear it is beautiful

6. Pine Creek Gorge - the Grand Canyon of the East

7. Washington DC - from where I am you are less than an hour to the subway and a little more than that if you drive. The museums and monuments should be visited if you're that close!

8. Baltimore's Inner Harbor - this is in MD, also an hour from me and beautiful. Great shops and right next to Little Italy

9. Erie Bluffs State park/Lake Erie - haven't been but it's a beauty I'm sure, the pictures look fabulous

10. Pittsburgh - lots to do and see and it's the other big city in PA - the western side

HA! Love it. And CHA is a week and a half after that.

In that case you need to add Mike's Pastry/the North End and the Museum of Science to the list!

Re: Ten on Tuesday
Which state? Hmmmm can I do 5 and 5? nahhhh.. I'll do AR

Arkansas is easy - it's a tourist haven even though it often gets undersold and misunderstood!

1. Eureka Springs - an amazing "little Switzerland" in the northwest part of the state. The roads are narrow and wind through some of the most eclectic architecture in the state. there are shoppes, museums, strange hotels, beautiful churches into which you enter through the bell tower! This home to the Christ of the Ozarks, similar to the one in Brazil, it is really a sight to behold. This is an artist haven, a motorcyclists' dream, and the only place in the state where marijuana is legal. To say it's unique is an understatement. I've never taken anyone here that didn't immediately fall in love and want to move here.

2. Coming back toward Little Rock we would go through Bentonville - Alice Walton is/has creating/created one of the best art galleries in America, some say in all of North America. It's all glass, in the middle of nowhere but her collection is quickly becoming, well, unmatched! We could then go to the Wal Mart museum if you desired

3. Springdale - War Eagle Mill - The Ozarks: One of the most amazing places in AR. Depending on the time of year its beauty cannot be matched. There's trout fishing, hiking, waterfalls, whitewater rafting, canoeing, whatever you desire can be found here and in all of God's glory no less!

4. Ft Smith: This was called "the jumping off point" because it used to be the very last point in the west before you jumped off into "indian territory" in Oklahoma. It's known for it's saloons, brothels, outlaws, and, most of all, Hanging Judge Isaac Parker. He hung more people at The Fort than any judge in history. The Fort still stands, the jail and his courtroom are all there as they were and, most importantly, so are his gallows. You won't want to leave until you visit Miss Laura's - the local brothel down by the river. ;)

5. Before we go to Little Rock we'll take the cut-off and take scenic Hwy 7 down to Hot Springs. Hot Springs has thermal underwater springs that naturally stay at about 120-130 degrees year round. They are reported to have healing powers. People have come from all over the world to bathe in the famous Bath House Rowe in Hot Springs, including President Franklin Roosevelt, who stopped here during his famous Whistle Stop Tour. (my grandfather got to meet him at that time.) Hot Springs is also known for its gangster and gambling pasts and was once a hideout (not really hiding because no one here cared) for Al Capone and Bonnie and Clyde. Today it is known for its thoroughbred horse racing held each spring, going on right now in fact.

It is also the nation's FIRST National Park, declared by President Teddy Roosevelt, and the Ouchita Mountains are home to some of the most beautiful vistas, lakes and rivers, hiking trails and recreational sports.

6. One hour south of Hot Springs is a Place Called Home - birthplace of liberal President Bill Clinton and Conservative Talk Show host and former Governor Mike Huckabee. You can take your pick which home you'd like to visit. I generally tour the historic train depot.

7. Heading back to Little Rock, the capitol, first stop is the state capitol, an exact replica of the US Capitol. It is often used in filming movies because it does so closely resemble the "real thing."

8. To its east is Central High, home of the infamous Central High Crisis in which Governor Orval Faubus refused to allow the Little Rock Nine to enter Central High in 1957. There are many versions of what actually happened. I had the honor of interviewing Governor Faubus in 1985 so I'm going to go with his version but there are plenty of books at the museum that will give you conflicting accounts. In 1958-1959, the school was closed forcing those students to seek an education at nearby, or not so nearby, schools elsewhere.

The school is still operational, fully integrated and Chelsea Clinton attended here, as do most of the wealthy elite in LR.

9. The State House Museum District - This is where Bill Clinton announced his candidacy, accepted it and did a lot of his speaking. To me, it's one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. It was the original statehouse for AR politics. The first ladies ball gowns are inside, including one that was made by MY daughter for Janet Huckabee. :) The history is fascinating and includes stories of duels, and fist fighting and murder. It's a great place. AR politics hasn't changed much over the years.

10. Finally we end at either the Heifer Project International - an amazing place that feeds MILLIONS of people each year with their philosophy of teaching them to fish rather than giving them a fish or across the street is the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library and it truly is amazing. Currently on exhibit are all of the artifacts and paperwork from the OKC bombing that occurred on his watch. I'm going on my next trip home.

Geesh - you would never know I didn't really like AR, would you? LOL!!

I don't know that I can do 10 from Indiana but I love this state already and I would love to show anyone around!
