Good afternoon!
I hope you are having a great time and getting a lot of fun scrapping and playing in today!
Doesn't ACOT know how to throw the best crops in the entire scrappy world?!?! I think so anyway!!!
I am so excited to bring you my first class here at ACOT as a CT member!!!! I hope you all have fun and enjoy this! Please bear with me as I update the thread, add instructions and photos and answer your questions! And please don't hesitate to ask questions! I tried my best to be thorough with the instructions, but that doesn't mean they will make sense! LOL!!!!
First off....Won't you please check in and let me know who's here and playing along!!!!
Objective: Create a Christmas Garland to hang on your wall or your mantle.
Supplies:
Patterned Paper: 16 different patterned papers with a Christmas theme or theme of your choice. The number of papers will depend on the words you use on your garland.
Ribbon: various colors that coordinate with your paper (Do NOT cut the ribbon, but you will need at least 20 inches in length for each ribbon PLUS 2 strands that are at least 6 feet in length)
Beads: Wooden beads or other beads to put between the boxes.
Embellishments: Cardstock stickers, bling, flowers, etc. or make your own.
Chipboard Letters: color to match your papers
Box cutting template: I used one that I downloaded for my Silhouette. Any cutting system will work and there are also free templates available online. My boxes are about 2.25 x 2.25 x 2.25 inches.
You can see more photos HERE!!!
And the full articleHERE!!!
Instructions:
Before you begin, you need to decide on what you want your garland to say. This will determine how many boxes you cut out. You will have one box for each letter plus a box inbetween each word if it is more than one word. My garland says "Merry & Bright" so I cut out 12 boxes for each letter PLUS 4 more to go before and inbetween each word.
1. Use a die cut machine or template to create your boxes. I used a downloaded design with my Silhouette, but free templates are available on line if you don't have a die cut machine.
2. Once you have cut out your boxes start assembling them, but DO NOT glue the lids closed! You need them open so you can thread the ribbon through them.
3. Make a hole or slit on the side of each box (about a 1/2 from the top of the box) so that you can thread the ribbon through it. (I made a little template as to where to cut my slit, made a mark with a pencil and then used an X-acto knife to cut it. You could also use a hole punch if you have one that will reach.)
4. Thread the ribbon through the boxes and bead. (I used about 6 feet of ribbon for this!) Begin with a bead, then add a box and then a bead and then another box.
5. Repeat step #4, alternately adding a bead and a box, until all of the beads and boxes are on the ribbon.
6. Leave about 12 inches of ribbon on the end of the first box. Thread a bead on the end and tie a knot.
7. Leave about 12 inches of ribbon on the end of the last box. Add another bead and tie the end in a knot.
8. Begin to decorate your boxes. Tie ribbons around the boxes that will not have letters.
9. Add chipboard or sticker letters to the top of the other boxes.
10. Add any embellisments you wish to the front of the boxes with letters.
(I was inspired by the Bo Bunny cardstock stickers to make my own embellishments.)
11. Finish by gluing the lids closed.
12. Hang on your wall or mantle and enjoy!

I'm looking forward to this - there were 2 classes I especially wanted to be here for, so we had supper early.

I am going to slowly add the instructions, because there are quite a few.

This will take you longer than the alotted class time, but don't worry about that! Just have fun creating!!!
