I too made an effort - as a military brat you either learn to introduce yourself, or fade away - and even made attempt to start conversations. Nothing worked.

I have never had an experience like yours, but I have had good and bad experiences at crops. I am real friendly, and sometimes that scares people. It is hard for me to strike that perfect pitch of friendliness and ...whtever it is, I just don't know. So, how can I be right if I don't even know what right is?

The next crop I went to was horrible. The only reason anyone talked to me was because I talked to them first and so they had too talk. But no one initiated conversation even after I broke the ice. (BO?) I ttok a lot of classes at that one to keep from being lonely. It was a shame because there were lots of ladies there.

Re: *Scrap SNOBS?!*
The group I cropped with in St. Louis was a CM one but the gal who organized the crops didn't hassle us about being non-CM. The crops were fun and the food was good and everyone was welcome.

I moved to Ft. M Fl and was hunting for another crop group like the one at home. I took a class at one of the lss (no longer in business)and overhead the gals across from me talking about Nat"l Scrap Day crop and I asked for some information. You'd have thought I was asking them for their first born child. The one said to me, oh the crop is a private one. We have enough people in our group and don't want any more...a private CM crop? When I asked for the leaders name to reorder some page protectors, they told me they don't give out that inforation and that she did not need any business...ok. I started cropping with some gals at JoAnne's open crop nights and had fun. I found other groups in Ft. M that were far more open and friendly.

I think it is hard to break into a new town to begin with but sometimes certain women make it even harder and I am not sure why. I've found a couple of groups here in the Tampa area and both are warm and friendly. YOu just come visit me, darlin' and we'll have a blast.

Re: *Scrap SNOBS?!*
I started going to crops in 1997 and most people were friendly (except for some CM people-not all, just some). When scrapping was relatively new, people were excited about the crops and learning new things and tended to be more open and fun.

As scrapping became more popular I noticed changes where some people were just plain rude and didn't want to share their layouts or tips, etc. I went to a crop this spring and was commenting on how gorgeous a person's layout was and she just kind of blew me off. There was a lot of people at that crop but everyone stayed in their own little groups and didn't mingle which really surprised me as half the fun for me is to get up and admire other people's layouts.

I am at the point right now where I prefer to crop at home as everything is right at my fingertips and now that I've joined ACOT I feel like I have friends here and don't need to go to live crops for them. Although I am hoping to meet some fellow cherries sometime!

Re: *Scrap SNOBS?!*
I'm sorry you experienced this, I have too when I first went to a new place. I kept going & finally found new friends once others started seeing me again & again. I also worked at the LSS & we would try to talk to everyone & include people into other people's groups. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not.
I have noticed the group I scrap with, the LSS is now closed, there is 9-14 of us at any one time, when we get together we tend to be a tight group because this is the only time we see each other. We do talk to others but I think we tend to be a group among ourselves. I hope no one thinks we are snobs, I think I will be more conscience of it now. But I have noticed that some of us get upset if everyone is not invited everytime. Unfortunatly since we are now scraping at our homes, not all of us have room for that many people so we invite until our home is full.

Re: *Scrap SNOBS?!*
It does seem snobby, however keep in mind things arent always as they seem. Alot of people have a hard time knowing how to interact with new people. Most people are basically intimidated and are at their basic selfs afraid of rejection, so many dont reach out because of that. Keep going, and be bold, be who you are, and maybe bring a yummy snack to break the ice...food and chocolate works wonders. lol. Eventually you will find that people will reach outside their normal cliques and get to know you.

I know in high school I was very shy and didnt talk to people, cause I wasnt bad looking, people assumed I was a stuck up snob. I was just shy and insecure and afraid of rejection and being laughed at.

I've been SO LUCKY. Tulsa is a wonderful place to crop at the LSS's. I've met new people and we have a ton of fun. We talk to other people at the crops and I've made new friends that I crop with all the time now. The other thing you might think of is joining a stamp club. CTMH and SU both have those and you will meet some people there that you could also go to crops with. I joined both, and we all get together and crop once a month with my SU group. I crop pretty much every w/e now and have met really nice people. But...then again.....Tulsa is a really friendly town.
A bad day on vacation, beats a good day at work!

Re: *Scrap SNOBS?!*
The few times I have went to a crop I usually have a friend or my mother with me.....but I usally try to say Hi to at least the ones that will look at me and if I walk by someones table and see a neat layout I will stop and make a comment to them about it.. but a lot of times people just don't seem to want to get to know someone else. I would love to find some more scrapping buddies in my area...... our little group that we would get together once a month and scrap with fell apart. My mom and I along with my sister in law get together when we can.

I hope you can find a place that wil make you feel welcomed!

I haven't been to a scrap group...I scrap at home. period. My BFF only does crops and is in 4 groups...one group is extremely snobby, she says. She has no idea why they invited her to join them. She just does her own thing and answers questions when they deign to talk to her.
I wonder, sometimes, if we ever give God a headache.

I have had this happen to me a few times as well...I have left early and my husband looks at me funny when I come home so early.... It can be so hard to find a new scrappy group when you move....and yes unfortunatly, there are snobs out there....you should have seen the look on one ladies face when I told her I had never heard of CM before, you would have thought I had shot her!

Re: *Scrap SNOBS?!*
I'm so sorry for all who have such terrible experiences. DD and I did go one time to a crop at a store. We arrived an hour late and the only place was a table away from the rest of the scrappers. We had fun together and it go rid of my crop withdraws at the time. I did meet a very nice gentleman who had not one but two Revolutions and he struck a conversation with me about my Revolution. It was a very quiet group of ladies and one gentleman. They all must have been working very hard.

I'm lucky I go to a crop once a month with a great group of ladies that welcomes everyone with open arms! So any of you in Houston are welcome anytime. We love newcomers and hope you'll become a regular! It is a CM Group in which everyone uses outside products, and we have a wonderful lunch in which we include everyone at the table. So PM me and I'll let you know when and where. I've recently found another that is put on by a great group of ladies as part of their church's Women's Ministry and are also a lovely group of women that just get together to have fun and crop. Again in the Houston area. I went the first time last month and had a ball. I'll give out the info and website on that one too, just PM me.

I have had one experience like you many have written about since becoming an adult, happened two years ago. It isn't fun for people to treat you so badly. In fact I got so disgusted with treatment by one lady, I said something not so nice back to her. No two wrongs don't make a right, but I had gotten it all evening. She shortly left after what I said to her. Recently I had to attend a function involving the same people and the one woman who treated me so badly stayed clear of me. I was delighted.
