We have been fighting this for over three months. Finally they decided last night to close us.
I have tenure, so I am now changing positions to an ART Teacher!!

It is so hard. My husband works for our schoold system for the last 28 years and they are laying off like crazy. Thankfully his contract was renewed.

I'm sorry to hear that your school is closing. I know that a number of districts near here have been going through much the same kind of restructuring and several schools are slated to close. Being an art teacher sounds like fun, though!

Wow! At least our district hasn't come to this yet. At my school we are losing allocations, but that's due to a new hs opening. We haven't heard of any teaching positions being cut. I am 4th on our seniority ladder so chances are my job is safe, but this is still scary that our public schools are closing.

I'm so glad that you still have a position. We have lost several people from our school - most will be relocated to other positions at other schools within the system. We have one teacher who will not have a job which is really sad because she's going through a divorce.

Actually the change was part my idea - a new kindergarten teacher would have been cut, but this way she still gets to work and I try something different!:-D

Sorry your school closed, but look at this as a great opportunity. You will be an Art teacher and of course as a scrappy person, you will be great at teaching the kids art. Maybe you could throw a little scrapping lesson or two their way. What age group will you be working with?
