My grandmother and double bypass to her stomach yesterday. They thought everything had gone well, but now her kidneys have shut down and she has fluid in her lungs. My step-mom is with her, but is feeling very alone and scared and frustrated.Please pray for a miracle. UPDATE - My dad is flying to Washington DC this afternoon. Of course, his MS has been particularly bad, so this will not be easy for him. UPDATE (2/3/08) - My grandmother is making baby steps in getting better. They've been able to take her off the CVVH unit, but she is still intubated and is on a feeding tube. They have to keep her sedated, to keep her from pulling everything out. UPDATE (6/3/08) - After taking the breathing tube out 2 days ago, my grandmother was really not doing well. They were planning on inserting a new tube, and performing a tracheostomy either tomorrow or Saturday. One of the doctors even suggested to my parents that they needed to consider letting her go and stopping treatment all together. Well, my grandmother is proving them ALL WRONG! She's now breathing again on her own, with just some oxygen, barking orders at everyone! She keeps asking for Coke and fruit, but the doctors won't let her have anything by mouth - she's still on the feeding tube, which is apparently causing trouble. They've ceased feeding her through it for the time being, but are going to be trying her on something else. My dad flies back on Saturday and will be leaving my step-mom and grandmother in Washington DC.
