I believe that's what they call this kind of rain (although I have no idea why?) at least that's what my dad calls it, and so I do too.It's so windy here with it that it's raining sideways! My hair looks like crap!

I heard that California was in for some "Winter" storms with lots of rain.Want to trade?  I've got sub zero wind chills and flurries.Oh, and my hair would like like crap regardless of the weather.

I don't know if this helps you at all, but a gully is another name for a ravine which typically has a small creekbed in the bottom that could be dry most of the time. If you get a huge amount of rain, the runoff would fill the creekbed and wash away any debri (sticks, leaves,etc.) that would be sitting there.So there's your Cliff Claven of the day!

Thanks Cliff...I mean Marcy! That does make sense...the only gully near me is the little drain I have in the middle of my side yard cement...nothing is washing away there though, because the hose is completely full of rainwater too!

Definitely bad weather.  The river is only about a football's field length behind out house, maybe a little further.  It's risen 11 feet since this morning.  Quite a ways though before flood stage.  Our warning level is 45 feet and flood level is just over 51.

OMGosh!!  I haven't heard the term Gully Washer in years!!  That's hiliarous!  My mom said it all the time when it rained.

Me too, haven't the term gully washer in so long.  I remember my mom trying to say it, that little mexican woman would say "gale watcher" typical beaner tone!!  I loved hearing her talk her english was pretty bad.  but hey at least she tried, right?

I feel your pain Laura! Been raining for days. Had no power yesterday, there's flooding everywhere, car accidents one of the major bridges was closed down yesterday due to high winds and 5 rigs toppling over. Still raining and is supposed to till at least Sunday or beyond. They told us 3 major storms here in Cali.Along with no power we also had no hot water...I felt so gross yesterday.And Marcy...I chuckled at the Cliff joke. Nice!
