Not sure what camera to buy

 Hi,

I'm looking for a new digital camera to buy as the one we have is not good enough for sports or zooming past 3x.  My daughter is into sports now and using the Canon Powershot, I couldn't get any good pics of her playing basketball and now with soccer starting, the camera can't zoom in close.  I love the camera for other things but just not good enough for action shots.

Any recommendations and pics for that camera would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I remember awhile back, someone posted that she got a new camera and showed a few pics of her son playing basketball or some sport and those pics were awesome.  Been trying to find that post but no luck.

Thanks.

The canon digital rebel xti is awesome for taking sports pics.  My daughter does sports too. . . softball and karate.  I got the camera last summer and the difference between the pics from softball this year and the ones from this year are like night and day . . . last year mostly blurry and this year there so awesome.

When I get home I'll post some pics from a recent game so you can see.

I would reccommend a Digital Rebel too. I love mine and it has a setting just for sports pics. Plus it can take 3-6 shots per second so you won't miss any exciting plays!

The Nikon D50, D40x, or D60!!!!  All awesome cameras!

I just got the Nikon D60 earlier this month and I LOVE IT!
It has a sports/action setting, too and takes great pictures.

For really good sports/action shots you are going to need to get a digital SLR.  If they are out of your price range, pay particular attention to the "lag time" (or whatever it is called - "delay time" ??) between when you press the button and it actually takes the picture.  Look for one with the shortest time possible.  Hopefully it will also have lots of optical zoom.

I have both the Cannon Rebel xti and the Powershot A590 for a "purse camera", which is about the bottom end of the Powershot line.  It is possible that the top end model might do better with action shots.  I know the top end model has a lot of zoom.

I'd love one of those Rebels, but alas, I live in poverty.  I have a Kodak Easy Share 650 and it has a "sports" setting and works great.  Has a 10x zoom and the software to share pictures is great.  It must be...I can use it.  The camera is around $300.
