is closing it's doors. I got the email this morning. I guess it's a good thing I wasn't counting on that job coming back to me in the Spring, huh?I am so sad...it was a great store!
That's too bad. The three near me have closed in the last year as well, very sad.
Awww, that's a shame!! Today we drove out of our way in Vermont just so we could go to a LSS on our way home. It ended up being AWESOME & I got a bunch of new papers & stuff!

We have two LSS in ABQ and one went for sale a couple of years ago and they found a new owner, but I received an e-mail that the other store is for sale now and if they don't find a buyer, they will close their doors. My guess they, lss in general, are closing is because of the big chains (HL, Michael's, etc), online stores and people going to the dark side (digital). What do you think?

Our lss closed last month also. My question to you is, why do you think alot of these stores are closing? Because people are not scrapbooking as much or because the price of the items has gotten out of hand? or any other reason?

Sorry Late, just reas exactly what i wrote, lol. I think that the prices of the products are getting too pricey. Brads that cost 3.99 for 16 brads is crazy. The shipping to the lss is nuts also. I think people are cautious of what they spend for scraping more now than they were a few years ago, plus the prices have jumped for what you get. jmo

In the article in the LA times on the scrapbooking scandal (see that topic for link) they said that one company, I think it was Creative Memories, had a drop in profits last year due to people going digital. But it also said that company was now starting to offer digital products.I think sometimes too many stores open up in an area. One new store opened up by me a few months ago. Another local store actually changed locations and moved closer to me and the new store. And there are a Michael's and a Hobby Lobby close by, too, as well as a JoAnn's and a Texas Art Supply.
Sorry Laura. I know how you feel, Recollections is closing (and they had run all the little lls's out of town when they got here 5 years ago). Sigh....... guess ACOT will be getting a large chunk of my business.... after the Resolution challenge is done of course!
If you can't beat 'em you need to join 'em. I've heard of a couple stores that have digital lounges. Very cool. And the one store in Rocklin CA I hear does REALLY well!
We had two here and the smaller one closed shop and the other just downsized to a new location.... very sad!

I think it's pretty much what Late said. Not totally sure about the digital part, though, because I digi scrap and I'm still buying SB supplies. LOL Actually, I don't intend to quit paper scrapping.
Digital will never replace Traditional, I think it's just an added bonus. Most that do traditional then go to digital will end up doing hybrid in the end, I think anyways. My take on owning an LSS? If you can't keep up with the trends and you can't offer a lot of classes to keep your customers motivated, then you won't be able to keep up with the big box stores and the changing industry.
Sorry to hear your lss is closing. I'm missing the ones around here that have closed.
that totally sucks, Laura. We just had one open by us to replace the 2 that closed, but when I asked her if she was getting the BG Two Scoops she just laughed. She had put alot of money into the last releases, and they aren't selling well. SE Wisconsin isn't so trendy
Thank goodness for online shopping. Has always been my only option unless I travel at least two hours. I was suppose to go Sunday to an Archivers but because of a snow storm didn't get to go...now I'm shopping online and am thankful for it!
