Both. There was a time when I was a cardstock background scrap...and just loved cutting up the PP to layer on top. But with patterned papers coming out with tone on tone patterns, GRIDS (LOVE these!) - more and more I am using PP for backgrounds, but probably 1/3 of my work. Even with a PP background I often feel the need to ground it with a solid dark cardstock mat - in which case I cut out all but the outer 1" border on a sheet of CS and plop the PP over the big hole. (LOL)

I am both. If I use pp then I typically use cardstock on top of it. I don't think I save any money, LOL.

I'm pretty much cardstock unless it's a very subtle pattern.

I always use cardstock as my base. Then I add my pp from there. If it's a subtle background paper I may use the whole sheet or a large piece of it, but if it is a busy pattern I'll cut strips or large sections of it or cut it in a wave shape.

That's a hard question for those of us who use scrapbook pages! ;) In one sense the question becomes, do you 'wallpaper' (cover the entire page w/paper) or not? In which case I do both. But then there are also different colors of CM scrapbook pages, and my favorite (spargo) has a bit of a texture pattern to it, so it's not plain. I don't mind using white pages occasionally and it doesn't matter what color the base is if it's wallpapered.

So, if it is 'wallpapered,' I guess the question is whether the background piece is a plain color (would equate to "cardstock" I suppose though often it is thin paper) or patterned. In that case I do both as well!

Basically pp for me.

I use pp for background almost always, if I use cardstock I use stamps on it :)

definitely pp. cardstock leaves too much "white" space for me no matter what the color

I scrap both ways, depends on the paper. I perfer solid paper for the background or papers that aren't too "busy."

Good question. I think it's 50-50, for me. I think it depends on the pictures. I usually use cardstock as mats for my pictures and journaling.

I do mostly patterned paper now, but I doubt I save any money, since I almost always mount my photos on cardstock to help separate them from the wilder patterns.
