Distressing papers

Post by Laura Fiore »

Hey Indy Scrapper--you asked how I distressed the edges on these papers. I used the Tim Holtz edge distresser...Heidi Swapp also makes one. I like Tim's better...just drag the paper through the V as much as necessary till it's distressed the way you want it to be.Image

Does anyone else have other distressing techniques?

shanierae gave me a really easy quick idea to distress the edges of my paper i just use the edge of my cutterbys or other scissors whichever is handier.  I don't have to look for my tool that way, cuz i can never seem to find my distresser lol

I have the Heidi Swapp one and it doesn't shred it up as much as I would like... gotta try the Tim Holtz one now!

You can use the edge distresser to sort of chop the paper edge repeatedly before dragging the blade over it and it will be a more torn and tatty look. I also like to crumple and flatten paper sometimes and then gently brush it with an inkpad to highlight the crinkles.
Gorgeous LO btw!!

I can't find my Heidi Swapp one.  It's OK, I am still mad at her about the whole rub-on thing...not to mention she discontinued those alphas I loved... :x :winkb: :winkb:

Oh Pam! I totally agree on those alphas! I've been known to take a class to make a crappy looking album just because it had a set of those alphas!

That reminds me...I was going to try to do some of those in digi and print them out for my layouts...I'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks Laura.  I wondered if it was one of the tools.  I love to tear my paper, but sometimes it needs to be more square and neat like your paper in the layout.  Can't believe it, but this is not a tool I have in my stash.

i tried this last night and it works: using your fingertip, wet the edges of the paper. wait for it to be a little bit damp and run scissors through it...

I have both, the Heidi Swapp and Tim Holtz.  The one from Tim Holtz works much better for me.
