These are adorable Laura. I love your explainations and the visuals really help. I always struggle using those bold papers.
[quote="Laura Fiore"] WHOOT! Thanks Kristy for the link! Isn't that site awesome? I just got May's newsletter yesterday, and it was so busy that I couldn't access the pages yet, LOL
Love it!!! I really am considering getting the book though. Even though, I have all of the pages printed up, I think I'd like the book better though. : ) Hmmmm I think I need to sign up for the newsletter.

I have the book and just love it. It's great having all her sketches in one bound book.
Here's what I did with it:
If you know my layouts, you've probably noticed that I don't use
colored cardstock very often for a background. Usually, it's White,
Kraft, or Black. When I did this layout, I realized that it's been a
while since I've used black even! I REALLY love the way bright colors
pop off of a black background, so I thought it would be perfect for
this! When you use a big print, they're easier to work with if you
neutralize it by covering part of it up. I did this with the pink
embossed paper, which I used my black Ink pad on to bring out the
pattern. I also inked all of the patterned papers to tie them together
on the layout.
To embellish this, I wanted to pump up the fun factor by using even
brighter title letters and buttons. The white lace keeps the layout a
little girly without being frou frou, and again, tones down the pattern
a little. I wanted the photos to pop off, so the white helps that
happen. The sketch had a circle on the upper corner, but I like to
journal a little, so I used a circular journaling block down below
instead. The flowers are cut out of the shimmery paper and the row of
buttons ground the photos with the title.

That turned out awesome! I'm so into LO's with a black background right now. There is just something about it.

About the color blocking...I'm not very confident in my abilities. I don't do straight lines very well, so it's not a technique I use that often.
But these papers really called for some separation, so I decided to make sure there was white between them!
You could also get the same effect by matting all of the papers with a solid!

Nope, not late! Thanks for coming!
There's nothing wrong with choosing papers from the same line...it takes the guesswork out for sure!
Hopefully, after this class, you'll be feeling ready to throw one more paper from a different manufacturer into the mix!

What a great lo-love the color choices and the row of buttons are too cute.
I mat most of my photos on a solid. I'm trying to get away from that some though. I really like the look of no mat behind a photo. I just can't come to grips with a "naked" pic, lol.
This is really teaching me alot! I'm lovin' it.

So now, this is the part of class where I shut up, and you can ask questions, or show me some papers and see if there's a way I can help you put them together!
Can you all see the beauty of the sketch when you want to use lots of papers?

I'm having the same problem... to me, every photo has to have a mat... I've been venturing out with ric-rac and corners though... Lala, what's ur recommendation for a change without freaking out? LOL

How helpful is it to use one of those color wheels when you work with patterned paper? Do you use one?
I don't have one, but I keep thinking I need one!
