Suggestions on doing a crop...
I wanted to have a crop with proceeds going to Relay for Life.  Can anyone give my suggestions?  I have been to several crops, but never done one on my own.  At the LSS, the owner has a crop at least once a month, on Friday nights.  She charges $5, and anything you buy, but she has lots of tools, machines and scrap papers to use.

Re: Suggestions on doing a crop...
My suggestion would be to find a sponsor or two (or three or four!). Manufacturers get asked for donations for things like this a lot, but they often come through with freebies and fun stuff to give to your croppers.

You could also try working with your store to create a larger event than her normal crops (maybe all day Saturday and into the night)... if you find a couple of sponsors, charge $10 or $15 instead of $5, she might allow you to use her machines and stuff.

Re: Suggestions on doing a crop...

Cheap refreshments go a long way.  It doesn't have to be anything fancy, but it may draw more participants in.  Or advertise a specialty class to be included in the cost of the crop.  Depending on how big you want, in addition to your door prizes, you could have a raffle where you sell chances to win a big prize.  Or Sell bingo cards with scrappy words ...

I also like the idea of working with sponsors.  If your store is only charging $5 right now, she could probably double the price to $10 and give the proceeds to charity.  You could also see if she's willing to give a prize as a raffle (ex. gift certificates, paper pack, free class/crop coupon, etc...)

My store charges $15 for pizza crops on Friday nights.

Thanks for the responses.  We have tried all the suggestions, only one person signed up.  Wrong time of the year I guess.
