First of all, my Dad just retired in November. His health has gotten really fragile right now. He is 65. He has had severe abdominable/back pain for 6 months now. At first it would come and go. Then in the last month or so it has been steady. He has had test after test and they finally determined it was his gall bladder. He has other things going on as well, asbestosis for one. He had his gall bladder out 2 weeks ago and was great for 1 day, and then the same pain was back, just as severe as before. He went to his surgeon on Friday and was told he probably has air still under his diaphram (which is where he has asbestos plaque) and to wait 2 weeks and come back if it wasn't any better. He is taking pain meds that aren't working and last night the pain was so severe my mom said he just cried. He was up all night and finally at 9:00 this morning my mom talked him into going to the ER. Several x-rays and a CT scan later...the doctors could find nothing wrong! Has any one heard of this type of thing happening from a gall bladder surgery? I can't believe there is nothing wrong for him to have this severe pain. And the pain doesn't stop, it is constant. So please keep him in your prayers that the doctors will find out what is wrong and he can finally get some relief from this constant pain. Thanks!

He has to make sure he takes ALL Fat out of his diet and caffeine . I am currently suffering from my gallbladder and i have noticed when i eat no fat i am good! When i slip up and eat any tiny bit of fat i am in Severe pain.. I mean as little as lightly buttering a piece of toast. I have heard from a few people that even though the gallbladder is out doesnt mean the pain goes away!
I hope he feels better soon!

Sorry your dad is going through this. I will keep him in my thoughts that the pain subsides & the Dr.'s are able to figure out what's wrong & treat it.
Tanya,
I am so sorry that your Dad is suffering so. If it continues, I would seek a second opinion by asking the doctors who they would take their loved ones to see. I ususally find out more answers and better care that way. I will keep him and you and your family in my prayers.

HUGS! Are they sure he doesn't have an infection? After having my appendix out I suffered horrible pain and that's what was causing it. Took three tests and lots of convincing the dr that I was in pain.

Oh Tanya ...I'm so sorry your dad is going through this. Its so hard to sit back and watch our loved ones hurt and then be told they can't find anything. I will definitely keep your dad in my prayers and ((HUGS)) to you sweetie. I hope he's feeling better really soon.
Your poor dad. I had my GB out several years ago and never had pain after, so I guess I was lucky. Hope they figure it out soon. No one should have to be in pain like that.

I'm so sorry your Dad is having to go through such terrible pain. I would certainly ask for a second opinion. Someone just saying they can't find anything wrong doesn't make the pain go away. Apparently there is something wrong or he wouldn't be suffering like this. It upsets me to no end that the medical profession just ignores complaints of pain in older patients. Your Dad deserves happy and healthly retirement years. I went to webmd and found this information for you although I don't know if any of these things could be your Dad's problem. At least, maybe this will give you a place to start when asking questions. Don't take this lack of interest from the surgeon. If I can find this information on the web, then his surgeon should certainly know about it. Make sure your Dad is getting enough medication to manage his pain. I just hate to see anyone suffer like that. Whatever you do, you need to pursue this until you find out exactly what is causing the problem. Maybe something as simple as changing his diet will help. I'll keep your Dad in my prayers and also your Mom because I know this has to be difficult for her also.

Thanks everyone, update on my dad. He went home and the pain went away somewhat because they gave him a couple shots of pain meds in the ER. My mom thinks he is overdosing on the pain meds because he started vomiting after he got home. He is taking vicodin but started adding in ibuprofin 800. I am trying to talk them into coming up to my house and getting him into OHSU in Portland which is a teaching hospital and they have very good doctors. Barb I am going to take a look at the link you posted. It is hard watching my dad be sick. He worked his whole life and should be traveling and enjoying life with my mom and he is basically home bound with this pain. Thanks for eveyones prayers and good thoughts. They mean alot.
