Sewing layouts

I like to use the zig-zag stich on pages to sew strips together or to do a color block. Really exciting to see the finished pieces and when I do neutrals, you could swear the pages were made of sewn leather. If you haven't tried it before, please do. You don't have to be perfect- it just works.

Sounds pretty. Upload a pic to the gallery so we can see it. I haven't tried sewing on my LO's yet, but would like to try.

I LOVE to sew on my Magistical Memories chipboard - and when the chippie is painted brown it really DOES look like a piece of leather. LOVE it!!
I was also very excited to finally get monofilament to work on a LO - "Winter's Glory" that I just posted in the gallery. i have tried monofilament on paper before and the sewing machine just clammed up. This time I stitched ever ever so slowly... and there were 4 layers of paper in one area, just held my breath that the thread would not break - i could feel the tension getting worse as I went along but made it. Love the sparkle of monofilament for a winter LO.
I agree that sewing on paper projects is a blast!

when i first started really getting into the scrapbooking i convinced my dh that i really needed a sewing machine! So he bought be a Brother machine ($150 or so) i have used it 3 or 4 times ... maybe i will bring it up from the basement and try again! thanks for the motivation

OMG, Rita! How elegant your work is! I had no idea how intricate it was. Seeing is believing. Simply gorgeous. Mine is just simple, simple. I love to weave ribbon through paper, too. But nothing as special as what you do. I suggest everyone check it out. Wonderful!

When i 1st started scrapping I bought the mini sewing machine by provo craft and it really sucked. I only used it once. I dont sew cloths so spending alot on a machine for scrapbooking is crazy to me. But I just seen at Walmart that Sanger has a Pixie craft machine. Its only $50 so Im thinking I may get it in a few weeks.

If you get one, let me know how you like it. I was actually thinking along the lines of trying hand sewing the paper, but if you are pleased with the Pixie, I may look into it.

I want to do this because it looks so beautiful.. I'm just scared to try! The pages with stiching on mine (like Sassy) are stamped on.

Trust me! It is so addicting and a great way to use up scraps! If you don't have a machine, you can pierce the paper and then hand stich! It is also fun to embroider and weave ribbons onto paper. I do crewel work on mine and on mats. Use a hole punch for thicker materials.

My DIL had a wedding gown that was laced up the back. For my layout, I split the 12x12 white embossed paper in half, and punched several holes. I found elegant thick satin floral patterned white cord and criss-crossed it down the paper- joining the papers into a bow at the bottom just like her gown. Then I mounted her dress photo on one side and my journaling on the other. It was not my idea- I had seen Anna Griffin do it beforehand but when I saw my DIL's gown- I remembered that LO. To copy the look of my daughter's tuxedo vest, I used pearlized white buttons in a row on her white embossed cardstock. I was pleased with the outcome.

I always try everything once. Don't be afraid- it really is a lot fun to combine both mediums.

You are welcome. I will bring mine (my daughter's) out of her BR into the DR this weekend, too. Perhaps, we can motivate each other.

I used to sew all the time:) in fact my machine is sitting on top of the cabinet in my scrapbook room....it looks at me accusingly and sends waves of guilt toward me:) Maybe I will listen obey the voices in my head and bring it out of retirement and give it a go at scrapbooking...thanks for the inspiration!

I have the little pixie machine from Walmart at Christmas time and have used it a couple times. I like it because it can do so many stiches. IT is OK. YOu get what you pay for, though. The foot petal doesn't work right, so I have to use the little hand lever. And you can't use a regular sized spool of thread... You need little mini spools. It's OK for what I want it for, the shabby look. But if you want something to use for nice, neat, work, this is not the machine for you. Invest in a better machine.

My question for the ladies that sew on there lo.

Do you use a specific setting? Thread? Cardstock? i need some specifics. cause the only time i tried it the page started to rip

I used regular cardstock and set the machine to zigzag- sorry it was automatic setting. For straight stiching I think I choose 10 or 12 (which would be 10 or 12 stiches per inch. It has a looser tension. I also just let the feeder foot move the paper through on its own- I did not push or pull on it. You made have had a tighter setting which tore the paper. I will try and send you some photos later also. Thank you for the directions for the gallery, Beatriz- you are most kind. So many people here are. Very fun site and fun day for me, too.
