Question of the day 1/28

Post by Kimandasmo »

Do you/or have you donated blood? Do you do it often ?

I do not ...because I pass out everytime I have tried not right after either, it is usually like 15 minutes later and down I go, they do not know why it happens so the doctor recommended I do not donate.  I commend those of you that do it frequently..it really is a life saver!

The Red Cross won't let me donate.  Something about mad cow disease.

No, it hurts when they just have to draw blood from me for tests (and I mean actually hurts the entire time they are pulling blood, not just that I don't like the needle), my veins are weird.

I have given blood on a regular basis until recently.

It's never been at a time when I'm free, lately.

I have never done it.  I was going to in high school but we had a softball game that day and were not allowed to .  But needles don't bother me.  I usually watch when I get blood drawn.

I did once in college.  Thanks to dorm food I had gained enough weight to be able to.  Since then I've had hepatitus, so I can't.  Sure wish I didn't weigh enough!!

No...needles make me nauseous and I used to weigh too little.  That hasn't been a problem lately, but I can't get over the needle...

I have once.  They set up at the place I worked, so I went.  Now I work in a small office and they don't come here.  I need to get my butt to the Red Cross office and just do it because I really would like to donate regularly.

I hate needles, i am not good with them at all, so i don't. I have an unlce with an unusual blood type though and he goes very often prob every couple of months to give blood. So proud of him cuz someone out there will be grateful if they have the same unusal blood type!

I tried to once when I was a teen and working at Chrysler - they rejected me - said I was anemic.  Now that I am older and have a few health problems - I don't think they would want it.

So how much is too little to weigh to donate blood? I remember trying once in my 20's. They wouldn't but I don't remember why, maybe something about iron.

I donated once... just haven't been able to since. The timing doesn't work for my schedule.

My mom donates all the time... she has rare blood that they need a lot of so they contact her regularly.

Most of my life I have given once a year or so. The last 5 years about 3-4 times per year because the Red Cross comes tour office  every quarter and anyone who wants can take the time to give.

I'm not allowed, I'm anemic and once in high school I gave blood and passed out in the hallway afterwards. Wasn't a good thing. :waiting:

I have donated twice. I was always terrified to do it.  The size of the needle freaks me out. But dh organizes all the local blood drives for the military and donates religiously. This past fall, a regular at my bar is the Red Cross Blood Drive Coordinator for the Ozarks. She was telling me about a little girl whose family was holding a blood drive in her honor. She was 1 year old and had just finished her last round of chemo. They found a cancerous brain tumor when she was 3 weeks old. Over her short life, she has had 25 blood transfusions.

As a motherof 4, I couldn't imagine what her mother had been going through. So, I told my bar guest that if Abby (the little girl) could go through that much pain and be strong through it. There's no reason that I can't stop being a wimp (expletive deleted) and suck it up. So, I went and donated for the first time and met Abby and her mom and it was totally worth it. Since then, I've only missed 1 blood drive because I felt like crap but there's another one this coming weekend and I plan to be there.
