Idea's for baby shower
 Hi,
First off I hope everyone had a nice Christmas! We had a white Christmas for a change...the last one was in 1861 yes 1861!
A friend of mine just called and wanted me to co host a baby shower for her daughter (age 21) this is her second child, the first one is a boy and this is a girl. I haven't been to a baby shower in years let alone help host one.
What kind of games do you like to play at a shower? Any cute ideas for cakes? Any hints that I could use?
thanks alot for your help and wishing all a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

Re: Idea's for baby shower
I went to a couple showers recently w/really fun games.  One had a purse scavenger hunt - a long list of things & you got a point for every item you had with you in your purse!  (Was a wedding shower but could be for anything.)  The other had a list of clues for "things a baby has," that were all body parts.  Like "storage container" (chest or trunk), "type of macaroni" (elbow), etc.  If you want the whole list for that one pm me & I can send it!

Re: Idea's for baby shower
I had a baby shower for my dd in Sept. and I made diaper cakes. I made a 5 tier one for the gift table and three 2 tier ones for the centerpieces for each of the tables. I filled the bottles in the middle of the diaper cakes with water and added 5 different pastel colored carnations and stuffed pink tulle around them. The 5 tier diaper cake also had balloons tied to it. They were a cinch to make and they were all the rage. Everyone loved them. Make one and you'll be the talk of the town. Plus the diapers are completely usable afterwards. My granddaughter is 3 months old and my dd is still using the diapers from the cakes!

For games and activities I had some things on the tables that the guests could do at their leisure, and other things we did throughout the shower. On the tables I had baby bingo sheets which I made up on my computer, and I also had mini baskets filled with advice cards that the guests could fill out. I had transparent pastel plastic cups filled with pastel-colored pencils. Also on each table I had a pastel tinted baby bottle filled with wintergreen lifesavers (made it look like milk) and I made up "guess how many" sheets on my computer and printed them out for each guest to write in a box how many lifesavers they thought were in the bottle. Besides the table activities, I also got a bunch of scratch off games that we did in between that were a lot of fun, such as baby jackpot, stinky diaper, and got milk, and we had a blast with a game called "my water broke" which is a lot of fun. You get mini babies in ice cube trays and freeze the babies in the trays. When the guests arrive you give them each a clear plastic cup containing one ice cube "baby". Whoever's baby completely melts first yells out "my water broke" and gets a prize. I gave out lots and lots of prizes and it was a lot of fun. I did a bunch of other stuff too, a lot of which included scrapbook pages that I made and attached to white storage cubes that I found at Target, which just happen to measure 12 x12, and stacked them like baby blocks (pics in the gallery). The pages were later put in a scrapbook I am making for her shower.

I hope this was helpful to you... and good luck!

Re: Idea's for baby shower
I agree with the diaper cake!! Great idea and the mom gets lits of diapers... I seen someone use a blow up ducky pool as a punch bowl, it was cute. Try the game where you put the quarter between your knees and walk across the room and try to drop it in the glass with no hands!! Totally good for a laugh!  The game with clothes pins where everyone gets one and if you get caught saying the word baby, othr people get to take your clothes pin away. The one with the most at the end wins. A number on a plate game during cake...
Hope these help

We had a taste the baby food game at my cousin's shower.  You buy about 10 jars of baby food, number them, and write down the numbers and what's in each one.  Then, you take off all the labels and pass them around (everyone has a plastic spoon) and people taste them and try to guess what they are.  It is funny and hard!  Alot of the fruits taste alike, and so do some of the vegies.

Re: Idea's for baby shower
There is the toilet paper guessing game.  How many squares will it take to go around the mommy.  They tear off how many they thing it will take and the closest one wins.

Then at my shower they did a game where you have a big bowl with cotton balls in it.  You are blindfolded and you have a spoon.  You have to scoop the cottonballs and put them on your head.  The one with the most cotton balls wins in the end.  It sounded corney at first but that game got the most laughs.

We've kind of done away with games at our showers, but these all sound fun.  I've seen the diaper cakes and they are cute.  I'd love to know how to make them.

Re: Idea's for baby shower
I also agree with the diaper cake. You can get awesome instructions on the internet if you Google "diaper cake instructions".  I have personally made two of them and my diaper cakes usually have a theme...like bathtime.  So I would include a two towels, a couple of washcloths, the Johnson and Johnson baby bath kit from Target for $10 at the top and a temperature duck.  You can then use the cake as a centerpiece, so you don't waste money on flowers, or other decorations.    :)
