Make-up allergy??

Has anyone ever had an allergic reaction to make-up.  All because I bought new mascara-- my eyes have like 2nd degree burns right on the edges and swelled horribly. This happened last October and we thought it was some kind of reaction to something ( but not sure what)-- didnt wear make-up for awhile then they healed and everything was fine until last night. My masacara was empty so I ran to the drug store and grabbed some of the old-fashion pink and green bottle Maybelline stuff that I always wore in high school. Well, after less than 3 hours with it on my eyes starting to feel fuuny and now they are all swollen and burned again.

I guess that means I am going to have to stick with my Sephora stuff wether dh likes it or not ( trying to save money) -- because I will never wear anything else ever again after my eyes heal again-- hope it doesnt take as long as last time.

You can develop allergies at any time.   And they coudl have changed the ingredients at some point.

I was horribly allergic to some Amway panty hose.   Take my word for it - you don't want to know!

not to discourage you or anything, but I started a similar allergy several years ago.  I was able to switch kinds, but had to eventually stop wearing eye makeup all together because I was developing new allergies at an alarming pace.  Mine must have been to some key ingredient that most everything has.  Mine also progressed from the sunburn type of look to swelling shut within a short time after application.  Sorry to hear you are going through this!

There are some lotions that I don't know what they have in them but whatever it is it doesn't like me.  The only time I had a really bad reaction to a lotion was on my wedding day.  We were getting married in Las Vegas and the morning of the wedding for whatever stupid reason I used the lotion that was in the hotel room. Where is the first part of the body where I started applying it,  on my face. As soon as it touched my face I knew it was not going to agree with me but it was too late. Within seconds the part of my face I applied the cream was already as red as an apple. So needless to say my wedding pictures looks like I had over did it on rouge.  LOL

That's awful!!!  I hope you are feeling better today.  I have contacts which makes my eyes more sensitive to mascara and I have always had luck with the pink and green Maybelline.  I have tried Clinique and Estee Lauder brands but I think the quality is just as good for the Maybelline and the price can't be beat.  :winkb:  I always try to buy it when it is buy one get one at one of the big box retailers.  I only wear Clinique make-up because I have really sensitive skin so it helps off set the cost a little.  :winkb:  I hear you on the Sephora thing.  It is crazy how much you can spend there.

 That sounds so painful!!
I have sensitive skin and have to watch what I use for detergents, soaps and stuff. I get hives and itch like crazy. I'm too scared to switch brands once I find something that works. I say stick with the stuff that isn't burning your eyes.

I am super allergic to certain types of make-up, especially mascaras. I can do certain basic types of Cover-girl mascara and Clinique super black - but not their others and never any water proof mascara. Whatever makes it waterproof really does a number on my eyes - for days!

I have to wear Clinque - and then only certain types of it. I even tried the new mineral based because I thought it would be better but nooooo - I looked liked a plump strawberry within hours.

yes, I can't wear Avon stuff.  I tried their eye shadow before and my eyes got all puffy and red.  I have gotten that type of reaction to other stuff as well, but Avon is the worst for me :?

Yes you can be allergic to make-up. You never know when it will happen either.
I hope your eyes heal fast for you!

I don't wear makeup much but I do use eye cream & I bought a recommended Lancome's eye creme one time (not cheap for sure) but I had this severe reaction to it. I took it back the next day & the lady was shocked to see the area around my eyes all red & puffy. Now I use way cheaper Neutrogene eye creme & no reaction to it!

I have very sensitive skin and can't tolerate many of products out there.  I am using Clinique products now, but I have had problems with a few of them.  I can't use the eye creams, any BHA/AHA product, or moisturizers with lots of anti-aging products.  I try to get samples of products at Sephora so that I don't waste a lot of money.

I have a horrible time with eye makeup and have given up trying new stuff.  The waterproof versions are worse -there is something in there that many are allergic to.

Hope you find a brand that works.  I hear you on needing to save money - I use Arbonne...and it's pricey too.
