Does it have the desired effect on you...make you drowsy and put you to sleep or the opposite effect?
For me, opposite. I thought I'd give it another try last night and wouldn't know you, I didn't fall asleep until about 3.5 hours later. Yet, when I take the day time stuff it makes me soooooooooooo drowsy...I'll be going that route tonight.
I might take the PM tomorrow during the day...watch my luck it puts me to sleep at work. lol
Are you alien like me and have to take daytime at night?

it depends-- sometimes it knocks me completely out-- and other times I am awake for hours and hours after I take it.
I've never used it so I can not tell you. But sometimes when I take sleeping pills, I still cannot fall asleep.
Here I come to save the day! Chas

I've tried sleeping pills too (not in a quite a while though) and they don't seem to work. But I'm thinking I need to see a doctor about my inability to get any sleep. It's not been good for me.evilqueen wrote: I've never used it so I can not tell you. But sometimes when I take sleeping pills, I still cannot fall asleep.

Try melatonin to help you fall asleep - it's been working pretty good for me.
On a molecular level, I'm very busy.
I haven't tried it with Tylenol PM, but I was just talking about this then other nite, how NyQuil PM or some other sleep aid (can't think of the name right now), but it totally has the opposite effect on me. I am totally awake after taking. I take Motrin on a daily basis, so I am used to it during the day and then at night... w i d e awake! Ugghhhhh...

I can sleep like 15 hours a day and could probably fall asleep in the middle of an earthquake. Well, maybe not - but you get the picture.
I've had Advil PM once I think - we didn't have any regular stuff & I must have had cramps or something. ??

I took it at the end of my pregnancy. I was hurting so bad, it was the only thing that helped me sleep at all. So I guess my answer is yes, it helped me sleep.

I have to cut the dosage in half. It's weird. If I take the full dosage of any medicine like that it has the opposite effect. Same with NyQuil. So if the normal dosage is two...I take one. And THEN I sleep like a baby.
I cannot answer....as I bought some recently, but haven't tried it yet!

Read the label. The PM part is the same thing as benadryl. And as a PSA for those who might be reading this who are senior citizens, they should NOT be taking benadryl in any form at all due to adverse side effects.
Okay........sooooooo...what does that mean it's the same as Benadryl? I don't have that nor do I take it so...AnnOminous wrote: Read the label. The PM part is the same thing as benadryl. It's basically Benadryl and Tylenol mixed together. The part that's supposed to make you sleep is Benadryl.
Interesting about the senior comment. My grandma was told to take Benadryl as a sleep aid in order to wein herself off pain medication after surgery. Hmmmm.

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) which is in Tylenol PM can have the opposite effect on some people. It doesn't make me sleepy, but I'm not wired with it either. I have heard that melatonin works wonders for sleep...and I guess I should get some since I sleep very little and it's hard to get to sleep and stay that way.... Hope that you feel better soon Shannon!!

Your grandmother needs to switch to better informed doctors!!
I first heard the no Benadryl when I took my mother to The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston's Geriatric Clinic. There she saw their memory specialist.
There is also something called "The Beer List" put out by the US FDA that is a list of drugs that should not be given to the elderly because they react adversely to them. I just had my mom's doctor take her off of some of her meds that were on the list. I had been thinking that she was "glassy eyed" and "dazed and confused". Now her eyes look normal and she's just confused. Well, she does have Alzheimer's!

Actually it just depends. A LOT. As with all medications it is most often the doctor who will know what is best for the patient. I am on a particular set of medications where Tylenol PM works beautifully for me - right now.
However, I was on a set of medications a year ago where it had the opposite affect and I never slept.
Every drug has a differing effect based on a person's chemical make up and other drugs they may be taking - including birth control and allergy medications.
Caffeine, sugar and carbohydrates ingested 2-4 hours, or more if you are "older," can give a "rush" and interfere with your sleep process.
There is a lot more to falling asleep today than there used to be. Unfortunately it's not just a matter of whether or not Bendryl or Tylenol PM or regular Tylenol will or will not do the trick. <sigh>

none of tylenols products seem to have the expected effect on me. I guess I am a plain old aspirin gal.
