laptop! I don't have one (just my desktop) and DH bought me a new camera for VAlentine's Day.

That's a tough one, but I think I'd go with the camera mine is getting kind of old, the warranty ran out recently. It doesn't take as good of pictures as it did a couple of years ago when I was taking classes from a professional photographer.... couldn't be that I've forgotten what I learned.

Do I get to choose my own camera? Is so, then definitely the camera, and it would be a high end DSLR! lol If I can't choose my own camera, I'd go with the laptop. Not bad to have a spare with all the kids in the family.
