My DD is allergic to "skeeter" bites. We found out abruptly after moving to Houston several years ago and she woke up with her eye swollen shut. She was 2 then and she's 8 now. She still gets HUGE lumps (half dollar size) that are HOT to the touch. A few times she's had a low grade fever. We're not in Houston anymore but still in the hot, humid south where the skeeters are just waiting to attack. We make sure she puts on repellent and if she does get bit, she puts ice on it and a little benedril ointment.
Anyone else have this kind of experience?
Quincie gets really big welts. I have to put calamine lotion on right away or they will get worst. It usuallly takes about three days of lotion to clear them up.
Here I come to save the day! Chas

I have that issue - started after I got the chicken pox when I was 10. Be especially careful if you travel anwhere exotic...I had REALLY bad issues when I went to Cancun for spring break back in college!

We have stock in Benadryl here, with that and Evan's bee allergy. (the real kind...not just puffiness...the hives and difficulty breathing/ER visit kind)

I used to be like that, but I managed to outgrow the mosquito allergy.
No offense, but swelling up is swelling up whether it's just the area or the whole body. It's a real allergy, and once you have just that smaller reaction, your risk of having a much worse reaction down the line increases.

All three of mine have it...seems it's getting better as they get older tho.
I'm allergic to mosquito bites. I keep tubes of After Bite Itch Eraser or Benadryl Extra Strength Itch Relief Stick everywhere --- in my purse, my car, my room, next to the front door and my desk at work. If I get the bite quick enough it won't get so bad, but if I don't catch it, it does like you say your daughter's does --- massive swelling and feels warm to the touch. Then the welts get REALLY hard, they hurt, look like bruises and they seem to take forever to go away. I developed my allergy to mosquito bites in my teens. I thought I'd been bitten by some exotic bug and when the doctor said it was an allergic reaction to mosquito bites, I thought he was crazy. But he wasn't and I dread every summer. To make it worse, the mosquito is the unofficial Minnesota state bird.

T is allergic to almost every bug bite. He is deathly allergic to fire ant bites. We have a cream that the ped. gave us to apply after every bite. We also have to use bug repellent every time we go outside.
I was like that growing up in Hawaii but rarely have had that reaction since we moved to the continental United States.
My son is the same way. One time he went to school fine and around lunch time that day, they called and said he had a huge lump on his head. I went up to the school, and started laughing because it was just a mosquito bite that had started to swell. LOL! This was in Georgia. We are in Maryland now, but he still does the same thing!
Good Luck with your daughter!

Oh! I forgot to mention that he is now 10 years old.
My dd has this issue. Beware if the bites get really hard and hot, plus the fever exists - you may need antibiotics. DD has had to be on them at least twice for bites.
I swear that someone on here recommended Vicks Vapor Rub for bites - It really does seem to help.

Vick's Vapor Rub? Hmmm. We'll have to try that, altho DD doesn't like anything put on them because "It's Gooey!"

Can they give you an epi-pen to keep on hand for the possible bee stings Pam? That's gotta be super scary!!
On a molecular level, I'm very busy.
yeppers, Tracy....we have the epi-pens!
Sara...my original post meant to say "real severe"....I missed a word....no more typing and parenting at the same time!

Oh that's good! Poor guy!

My daughter and I both have horrible allergic reactions to any kind of bite/sting....Benedryl helps, but we have also had to use a cortisone creme (both prescription and OTC). That ususally works the fastest, depending on what the bite is.
