Wow Laura; this will be a wonderful yet difficult task. A trip down memory lane but a lot of physical work. It's exciting and exhausting all at the same time. Good luck, and enjoy the trip~

Wow - I see where you're coming from! When my grandmother went into a convalescent home we cleaned out her place. I found money hidden in dresser drawers with towels & other linens, and we found a lot of old newspaper clippings & such from her life. The coolest thing was that she actually kept scrapbooks - I have all of them now but still haven't had time to sit down & go through them. It's one of my summer projects - and I'm excited because both her & my mom passed away so it will be a nice way to look back on their lives.
I hope you find some cool stuff! Oh - and if you're considering throwing anything out...I would suggest instead holding a giant tag sale (even if you consider it to be old junk) - people pay crazy money for antiques. We checked out the bigger stuff on ebay first to get prices and decide whether we wanted to just sell it there first. I still have a child's antique sewing machine (Singer) from 1950's era that I'm planning to sell this summer.

I know it might be emotional but it is also a cool experience. I hope you find lots of neat things and photos!!!

It's a ton of work - isn't it.
If she has lots of collectibles - you may consider using a local auctioneer and go that route - we did that with dh's great aunt. Household and everything goes on sales like that, but they do like tohave some items of value.

I would have a field day there. I love antiques and "old" things. I bet you would probably learn a great deal about your ancestors and relatives and maybe even find a lot of things fasinating.

oh lord Laura, what a fun thing to do. You could find some wonderful stuff in there and all of that is the history of your family. Hard work but interesting and might be fun too.

I updated further up in this post!
Basically, I was totally overwhelmed by all the stuff. I will have to take pictures next time, because I don't think you can even comprehend it...I barely can, and I've been there. We didn't hardly make a dent in anything. I did find some lovely jewelry and glassware, and some school books. The photos will go to my aunts and Mom, but I can scan and get copies of any that I want. Again...that is overwhelming...there are so many! It is wonderful to have them, but there is no organization whatsoever. They are just piled in stacks, most in frames.

Oh wow, I can only hope my mess is a bit more organized when my kids are doing this. Glad you found some memorable treasures though.
