I've used Woodgrain paper, Crafter's Choice (ink splatters)  and any shade of yellow.

My take on the sketch aAND I have plenty of stars!!  

I used the barbie doll in the box for my inspiration.  Besides the red/black/white color scheme, I was also inspired by the pattern on the dress, which I attempted to recreatee in the word MEMORIES.

I LOVE your layout, Barb!!!  It makes me smile SOOO MUCH!!!  It was also my daughter's birthday, she turned 19.  she spent the day with her boyfriend...and when she came home, she brought ME a gift!
